Although the fertiliser market is heavily subsidised by the Indonesian government, the 8.8 million tons of subsidised fertiliser is only adequate to cover 26% of all cultivated land.
In addition, farmers generally have limited knowledge on technical applications (correct timing, dosages, and sequences; appropriate methods; and types of fertilisers along with their benefits, etc.) as well as cost-benefit calculations (a business mindset). This can ultimately lead to increased production costs or a decline in productivity.
PRISMA collaborates with partners to introduce good fertiliser practices, reduce dependency on government-subsidised fertilisers, and promote the use of high-quality commercial fertilisers in various program working areas.
