Public and private sector partnerships can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of resource allocation to increase productivity and agricultural sector performance, particularly amidst the COVID-19 crisis. PRISMA facilitates the collaboration between PT Nufeed International Indonesia, a high-quality animal feed company, and the Provincial Government of Central Java, to support dairy farmers during the pandemic.
Since March 2020, PRISMA and Nufeed’s partnership has commenced. The partnership initially focused on developing the company’s business through the expansion of distribution channels, product development, utilisation of promotional tools, and education to farmers. However, social restrictions required PRISMA and Nufeed to shift their partnership focus to support dairy farmers as a priority. The emergence of COVID-19 poses a high risk to dairy farmers, particularly in Central Java – Nufeed’s target market, which potentially disrupts agricultural activities and impacts farmers’ income.
In response, PRISMA and Nufeed collaboratively developed a poster to educate dairy farmers to continue their farming practice according to COVID-19 health protocol. The poster includes information on four aspects, including good practices on milking procedures while maintaining social distancing and biosafety measures, and the protocol for milk gathering location. Recognising the important role of the local government as the provider of health services for 50% of dairy farmers in Central Java, PRISMA then facilitates the collaboration between Nufeed and the Provincial Government of Central Java. The provincial government through the Departments of Animal Husbandry in Semarang, Salatiga, Magelang, Boyolali, Wonosobo, and Banyumas showed their support through distributing more than 1,300 posters and providing counseling to cooperatives, milk collectors, farmer groups, milk processing companies, and farmers on applying good dairy farming practices.
Furthermore, Nufeed and the Provincial Government of Central Java has agreed to collaborate in supporting the role of animal health service providers who are at the forefront of promoting the use of high-quality animal feed for better milk productivity.
